Ross' latest novel takes up where Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind (1999) left off. Hazel Marie has failed to come home from her date with slick church fund-raiser Wilson T. Hodge. When the police are slow to act, Miss Julia takes matters into her own hands and hires a private detective. But she won't let him do the job she hired him to do, and she finds herself embroiled in a nasty business involving NASCAR racing. Ross allows the reader to laugh gently at feisty, opinionated Miss Julia while thoroughly enjoying the view through her eyes.
